-MASSJCL HAS STELLAR PERFORMANCE AT NATIONALS CERTAMEN-

At the NJCL Convention held at Atlanta, GA, the Massachusetts Certamen teams did exceptionally well. In the Advanced Division, the team coached by Ms. Hausey (BLS) and Mike Howard won 1st place for the second year in a row. The team consisted of Jeffrey Dubuisson (BLA), Joana Jankulla (BLA), Amol Punjabi (AMSA), and Henry Tsang (BLS). In the Intermediate Division, the team coached by Mr. Brownell (BLS) and Ms. Sinacola won 6th place after losing a grueling semi-final round. The team consisted of Arjun Baronia (AMSA), Randy Chen (BLS), Michael Lee (BLS), Allyson Ping (BLS), and Peter Wang (BLS). In the Novice Division, the team coached by Mr. Bartoloma (BLS) and Ms. Moguel (BLS) won 3rd place after a highly-contested finals round. The team consisted of Anna Aldins (BLS), Nestoras Apodiakos (BLS), Ina Beinborn (BLS), and Jonathan Yuan (BLS). Once again, congratulations to all teams for their hard work and dedication throughout this entire year.

 

-TEACHERS AND SCLERS SHINE AT NORTHEASTERN ELITE (10/4/14)-

Unlike normal Certamina, in which JCLers compete, the Northeastern Elite Certamen Tournament pitted teachers and SCLers against each other. The questions were around Advanced-division level, and included Dramatic Interpretation, a hallmark of World Series at Nationals. Four BLS teachers (Magistra Burns, Magistra Hausey, Magister Brownell, and Magister Mordine) competed and made finals, placing third.

 

-BLSJCL VICTORIOUS AT YALE CERTAMEN (11/8/14)-

Driving in several cars to New Haven on a beautiful fall day, BLSJCL was ready for a highly competitive Certamen tournament at Yale University. The tournament consisted of 3 preliminary rounds, and then a semi-finals round based on the total score from the three rounds. BLSJCL had a team place in finals in every single division. In the Novice Division, the team of Ashley Chou, Carina Layfield, John Nguyen, Nicholas Weiske placed 2nd. In the Intermediate Division, the team of Anna Aldins, Nestoras Apodiakos, Ina Beinborn, and Jonathan Yuan placed 2nd. Lastly, in the Advanced Division two BLS teams were in the finals: the team of Michael Gao, Julia Pan, Linda Qin, and Peter Wang placed 3rd, and the team of William Gao, Allyson Ping, Daniel Sherman, and Eddie Wang placed 2nd. Carina Layfield (Novice) also recieved an MVP book award for answering the most questions in finals.

 

-BLSJCL REAPS AWARDS AT BLA CERTAMEN (1/24/15)-

The heavy snow did not deter BLS students from attending the tournament hosted by BLA. BLS fielded 3 teams in the Novice Division, 1 team in the Intermediate Division, and 2 teams in Advanced Division. Overall, BLS teams placed 1st and 3rd in Novice, 1st in Intermediate, and 1st and 2nd in Advanced.  Every had a lot of fun and made many new friends during the tournament.

 

-BLSJCL HOSTS 5TH ANNUAL CERTAMEN (2/7/15)-

With the theme the Purple and Golden Globes, BLSJCL invited states from all over New England to participate in our 5th Annual Tournament. 9 teams competed in the Novice and Intermediate Divisions, and 12 team competed in the Advanced Division. The tournament was prepared very diligently with a lot of setting-up rooms and signs and question writing. The tournament directors were Ms. Hausey and Linda Qin. Overall, all of our teams performed very well. BLS swept Novice and Advanced Teams, and placed 1st in Intermediate.

 

-BLSJCL GARNERS TROPHIES AT SCL CERTAMEN (3/7/15)-

Every year in early March, the SCL (Senior Classical League) hosts a statewide tournament. This year, BLS brought 2 teams in each division. We were delighted to find that all BLS teams made finals! In the Novice Division, BLS placed 1st and 2nd; in the Intermediate Division, BLS placed 1st and 3rd, and in the Advanced Division, BLS placed 1st and 2nd. 

 

-BLSJCL GARNERS TROPHIES AT HARVARD INVITATIONAL CERTAMEN (3/28/15)-

Every year in late March, the Harvard Classics Club holds a nationwide tournament. This year, BLS brought 2 teams in each division, and placed 1st and 2nd in the Novice Division, 1st at the Intermediate Division, and 1st and 2nd at the Advanced Divison. Congrats to all part of this great, happy moment!
