A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO BLSJCL

Who? The Boston Latin School Junior Classical League (BLSJCL) is a chapter of the Massachusetts Junior Classical League (MassJCL) National Junior Classical League (NJCL), the largest Classical organization in the world. It is the largest school chapter in the nation, with around 300 students.
What? BLSJCL is dedicated to celebrating the languages, literature, and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. We hold events that enrich Latin and Greek students understanding of the ancient world and encourage an interest in the Classics.
When? BLSJCL holds numerous events throughout the year such as volunteer events and Coin Wars. BLSJCL also attends MassJCL events which include Kick-off in late October, Classics Day in early December, Midnight Masquerade in March, and State Convention in late April to early May, along with various Certamina.
Where? BLSJCL holds meetings in several areas, such as the Dining Hall, sponsors' rooms, and the Seevak Room. You must be a registered member (paid $7 due to Ms. Foley in RM 032), to recieve member emails regarding JCL events.
Why? We study the Classics because our world is indebted to the ancients for all the culture they have passed down to us. In order to understand our world, we first must venture into the Classics and understand their world.
As a chapter, BLSJCL delegates have won numerous awards throughout the year and at State Convention, including awards in Academics, Certamen, Creative Arts, Graphic Arts, and Olympika. In the 2013-2014 year, BLSJCL won 1st place overall at States, winning the Janet Rajotte Trophy!
